Project Title:
Elron web content filtering solution

Client’s Name (Country):

Zix Corporation (Elron Software), USA

The Challenge:

Elron Software's "Web Inspector" was developed several years ago and became a market leader. But about two years ago this position of leadership had eroded, and it was then that Elron Software (later acquired by the Zix Corporation) decided to develop and release an improved version: Web Inspector 7.1. But a new dimension to the problem had arisen - the original development team was no longer with the company, so Elron turned to AT Software to develop a new solution.

The Solution:

The Web Inspector is a web content filtering solution that allows an organization to enforce an acceptable Internet usage policy. The product can monitor and manage Internet traffic, while blocking inappropriate web content. The Web Inspector, which can be installed as a proxy plug-in, monitors TCP/IP traffic as a passive network element, but will not increase congestion. It can be deployed at multiple locations and still be managed by one centralized control policy. For maximum scalability the Web Inspector supports SQL Server 2000 and 7.0. The Web Inspector provides a rule-based policy system, which makes it easy to configure an organization's Internet usage policy. It allows control of casual surfing by individual users, groups, categories, and maintains a log noting the time of day, etc. When the policy has been changed, all clients are automatically updated, so it's unnecessary to copy the updated policy to each client. The Web Inspector supports Microsoft Active Directory, Novell Directory Services and LDAP. It enables a network administrator to seamlessly import existing user and group information, while saving time and administration costs. A web-based administration interface makes creating and managing a corporate Internet policy easier. It allows a network administrator to access, view and run reports from any location using a standard web browser.
